Short Circuit Appliance Repairs

Service & Payment Terms

These terms apply to appliance inspection, diagnosis, repair, installation and related services provided by Short Circuit Appliance Repairs. By booking a service, approving a quotation, supplying an appliance for repair, or asking us to proceed with work, you agree to these terms.

1. Call-out and diagnostic charges

Our call-out charge covers travel within the applicable service area, inspection of the appliance, fault diagnosis and preparation of a quotation where further repair is required.

The call-out charge remains payable where an appliance is inspected or diagnosed but the customer decides not to proceed with further repairs.

Any parts, additional labour, collection, delivery, installation work or other services outside the stated call-out service will be quoted or advised separately.

2. Quotes, estimates and additional faults

Where possible, we will provide a quotation before carrying out additional repair work.

Unless otherwise stated, quotations are valid for 30 days.

A quotation is based on the fault and condition that can reasonably be identified at the time of inspection. Appliances can have more than one fault, and additional defects or safety issues may become apparent only after dismantling, testing or commencement of repair.

If additional work or parts are required that materially change the quoted repair, we will normally contact you for approval before proceeding.

3. Parts, availability and special orders

Repair work is subject to the availability of suitable replacement parts. Parts may be discontinued, unavailable in New Zealand, delayed by a supplier, or available only by special order.

We are not responsible for delays caused by manufacturers, distributors, freight providers or other suppliers outside our reasonable control.

Where a special-order, non-returnable or high-value part is required, we may require full or partial payment before ordering it.

Some electrical and electronic parts may be non-returnable under the supplier's own policy once ordered, opened, handled or supplied for a particular model. Any such limitation will be explained where it materially affects the customer's order.

4. Ownership of supplied parts

Any parts or goods supplied by Short Circuit Appliance Repairs remain our property until the relevant invoice has been paid in full.

Risk in the parts may pass to the customer once they are installed or delivered, but legal ownership does not pass until full payment has been received.

Where permitted by law, we may take reasonable steps to recover unpaid goods that remain identifiable and recoverable.

Nothing in this clause limits any rights or obligations that cannot lawfully be excluded under New Zealand law.

5. Customer-supplied parts

We may agree to install a part supplied by the customer, but only at our discretion.

Customer-supplied parts are fitted at the customer's risk. Short Circuit Appliance Repairs does not provide a parts warranty on components that we did not supply.

We cannot verify or guarantee the source, authenticity, storage conditions, prior handling, compatibility, suitability or condition of a customer-supplied part.

We remain responsible for carrying out our own installation work with reasonable care and skill. However, we are not responsible for failure of the customer-supplied component itself unless that failure is caused by our workmanship.

6. Electrical and electronic components

Electrical and electronic components require particular care because damage, incorrect handling, incorrect diagnosis, static discharge, wiring faults, moisture, impact or unsuitable installation can cause failure that may not be visible before installation.

Where an electrical or electronic component is supplied by the customer, Short Circuit Appliance Repairs provides no parts warranty for that component. This applies even where the part appears new or remains in original packaging, because we cannot verify its full history, handling, storage or condition.

Where Short Circuit Appliance Repairs supplies an electrical or electronic component, any manufacturer or supplier warranty may be subject to correct installation by an authorised service person or appropriately registered electrical worker where required.

If a supplied electrical or electronic component is installed, altered, connected, modified or handled by the customer or another person, we may decline a warranty claim where the fault or damage is reasonably attributable to incorrect installation, wiring, handling, misuse, modification, static damage, unsuitable application or other unauthorised work.

Nothing in this section limits any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded under New Zealand law.

7. Correct part identification

Where a customer asks us to order or fit a specific part based on a model number, serial number, photograph, part number or other information supplied by the customer, the customer is responsible for ensuring that information is accurate unless Short Circuit Appliance Repairs has independently confirmed the identification.

If an incorrectly identified part is ordered because of inaccurate information supplied by the customer, any non-refundable supplier or freight cost may remain payable by the customer where permitted by law.

8. Temporary repairs and further faults

In some circumstances an adjustment or temporary repair may restore operation without guaranteeing that the underlying component will continue operating indefinitely.

Where we identify another component showing deterioration or a possible future fault, we may advise the customer separately.

A repair to one identified fault does not mean that unrelated components in the appliance are guaranteed against future failure.

9. Appliance testing, access and safety

You authorise us to operate, dismantle and test the appliance as reasonably necessary to diagnose or complete the requested work.

The customer is responsible for providing reasonable and safe access to the appliance, including access to electricity, water and drainage where required for testing.

Additional work caused by inaccessible installations, cabinetry, plumbing, electrical supply, unsafe conditions or other site issues may fall outside the original call-out or quotation.

If an appliance or installation is found to be unsafe, we may stop work, isolate the appliance, or decline to reconnect or operate it until the safety issue has been addressed.

10. Wi-Fi, apps and connected appliances

Where requested, Short Circuit Appliance Repairs may assist with the initial connection of a compatible appliance to the customer's home Wi-Fi network, mobile device or manufacturer app.

Once the appliance has been successfully connected and demonstrated, responsibility for the customer's router, Wi-Fi network, internet service, passwords, mobile devices, app accounts, cloud services, software updates and other third-party systems remains with the customer.

We are not responsible for later loss of connectivity or functionality caused by changes to the customer's network, router, Wi-Fi password, internet provider, mobile device, account credentials, app settings, software, manufacturer cloud service or other third-party hardware or services.

A later visit required solely to reconnect or reconfigure an appliance because of such changes may be treated as a new service call.

11. Payment terms

Unless another arrangement has been agreed in advance, payment is due on receipt of invoice.

Payment may be made using the payment methods shown on the invoice.

Approved commercial or account customers may have different payment terms where these have been agreed separately.

Invoices should be raised and paid promptly so that outstanding balances do not remain unresolved.

12. Deposits and prepayment

We may request a deposit or advance payment where expensive or special-order parts are required, where parts cannot readily be returned to the supplier, where substantial workshop work is required, or where other circumstances create significant upfront costs.

Any required deposit or prepayment will be explained before the order is placed or work proceeds.

13. Cancellation

You may cancel a repair before further work is undertaken, but you remain responsible for services already supplied, including any applicable call-out or diagnostic charge.

If you have approved the ordering of a special-order or non-returnable part and the order cannot reasonably be cancelled or returned, you may be responsible for the reasonable non-recoverable cost arising from that order.

Any cancellation charge will be limited to a reasonable amount that reflects the actual cost or loss caused by the cancellation.

14. Collection, delivery and appliances left with us

Where an appliance is taken away for workshop repair, we will contact the customer when it is ready for collection, return or further instruction.

Customers are expected to arrange collection or delivery within a reasonable period.

If an appliance remains uncollected for an extended period, we will make reasonable attempts to contact the customer before taking further action. Any storage, disposal or other action involving uncollected goods will be handled in accordance with applicable New Zealand law.

15. Workmanship, supplied parts and consumer rights

We aim to carry out all services with reasonable care and skill.

Where we supply a part, any applicable manufacturer or supplier warranty will apply subject to its terms and to New Zealand law.

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, Fair Trading Act 1986 or other applicable New Zealand legislation.

Where goods or services are ordinarily acquired for personal, domestic or household use, the customer's statutory consumer rights continue to apply.

16. Business customers

Where goods or services are supplied for business purposes, different statutory rules may apply.

Any agreement to contract out of provisions of consumer legislation will apply only where New Zealand law permits it and where the legal requirements for doing so have been satisfied.

17. Overdue accounts

If an invoice remains unpaid after its due date, we may contact the customer to request payment and may suspend further non-essential services until the account is brought up to date.

Where reasonable third-party costs are incurred in recovering a genuinely overdue debt, we may seek to recover those costs where permitted by law and where the relevant obligation has been clearly disclosed.

No automatic penalty or interest charge is imposed by these draft terms unless separately stated and lawfully agreed.

18. Privacy

We collect and use customer information only as reasonably necessary to provide our services, communicate with customers, maintain service records, issue invoices, manage bookings and meet legal or business record-keeping obligations.

Our handling of personal information is subject to applicable New Zealand privacy law and our Privacy Policy.

19. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time as our services, business practices or legal obligations change.

Changes will apply to future bookings and services from the date the revised terms are published. They will not retrospectively alter an agreement already entered into unless both parties agree.
